Resisting Spells

General | Resist Table | What Spells Can Be Resisted? | Resist Vs... | Skill Training | Tips & Tricks

General

As you can probably guess from the name (and the fact that every fantasy RPG has it), it resists magical attacks that are aimed at you. Every character that will be fighting magic casting monsters directly (read: non-Tamers) or participating in Player Versus Player comebat will need Magic Resist to stay alive for more than 5 seconds. The only way resist is really useful is if you have 95 or more because of Evaluate Intelligence.

There are two types of resist: active and passive resistance. Magic resist can't be used directly, but every time you are hit by spells there is a chance that resist decreases the amount of damage you take. When a spell hits you and you see the message: "You feel yourself resisting..", the damage of the spell is halved. When you aren't resisting a spell, high resist can still decrease damage depending on the casters Magery and Eval Int. skills. On the other hand, if a mage has GM Magery and GM Eval the only time GM resist helps you is when you're actively resisting a spell (and damage is halved) otherwise the damage is the same as if you had 0 resist.

Resist Table

Chance to resist with 100.0 Resist
spells cast by a GM Mage, GM Scholar
Circle 1 66%
Circle 2 56%
Circle 3 46%
Circle 4 38%
Circle 6 24%
Circle 7 12%

What Spells Can Be Resisted?

  • Buffs (Heal,Bless,Strength,Intelligence..) can't be resisted.

  • Debuffs (Curse, weaken..) can't be resisted.
  • Poison can be resisted completely.
  • Paralyze can be resisted but very rarely (mostly when cast by non-gm mages).
  • Directdamage spells (Energy bolt, explosion, flamestrike..) can be resisted and the damage is halved.
  • Mindblast can be resisted and damage is halved, however stats are more important here than magic resist.

Resist Vs...

Resist vs Players:
In PvP resist helps the most by resisting low level spells (i.e. Poison.) Most players have GM Eval. Int. and you resist only helps when a spell is actually resisted and damage is halved.

You can make up for a lack of resist with cure and heal potions, however it is a must in a no-potion duel.

Resist vs Monsters:
Most creatures have very little Eval. Int. or Magery, and you can see a huge decrease in spell damage cast by monsters, even if you do not actually resist the spell.

Skill Training

  • From 0 to 30ish buy it.

    From 30-65 firefield

From 65 to GM (and above) do the following:

Drain all the reapers in the forest outside minoc, then recall to Glow Cem and drain all those whilst standing behind the fence, Then go to Fire Temple and get urself all the demons u can find.. Find either a villa or a m8s house and take em there and drain those. Then take a walk to all the mage towers u can find, go to elder gazers and finally go to the bone mages room in tram(for ease of recalling).

Do This for about an hour ish a day and you will GM easy. I hit GM from 0 in 2weeks with an hour a day... I'm currenly at 117.6 on my main =) enjoy...

    -Glabro

  • Firefield to 65

Shadow wisps (lots of them; make a next target attack last macro with 10+ on you at once) at the Spirituality shrine in Ilshenar.

You can also do Gazers from 75-85 and Gargoygle and Daemons from the 80s to GM.

    -Moridin.
