Melee Skill Training

Brief | Appropriate Monster Skill Gain Chart | 40/60 Training Table | Tips & Tricks | To Hit Table

Brief

Gaining skill in any of the melee skills is now "difficulty based". You will need to fight different monsters at appropriate skill levels in order to grandmaster any of the melee skills. The following tables are things to know about training in Melee skills. To train in melee skills, scroll down to Tips & Tricks.

Note: Certain Monsters you do NOT want to melee solo when at low levels of Resist and/or Healing. These include monsters like Dread Spiders, Blood Elementals and Daemons. There exact power and rating will be listed in UOPG's Monster Section. Also, reports from various sources state you can gain off Harpies and Stone Harpies on up to 100.

40/60 Training Table

This table will assist you in finding the appopriate monster to train with. The left hand column is your melee skill level. The center column is the opponents skill level needed to give you a 40% chance to hit. The far right column is the oppontents skill level needed to give you a 60% chance to hit. Find the necessary opponent's skill range for you to gain and then go look up monster's wrestling skill. This assumes that the 40/60 thing is still current. Thank you to T'Koda of Great Lakes for generating and compiling the data and table.

Tips & Tricks

  • I've found that up to about 60, bulls are great. After that, do Earth Elemental and Harpies up to about 85-95. Then somewhere in there, switch to Stone Harpies to GM. I gm'd macing in 3 days, about 4-6 hrs total, I'm not sure. But I also GM'd Tactics and got to 80 Parry, 90 Anat, 75 healing in that time.

    -Vixenofvenus

  • I know it is possible to gm your weapon skill on harpies. I gm'd maceing on them it took forever but I was working parry and just had a wand in my hand to keep from killing them but it was enough to get gm from them.

    -Random

  • There is a Harpy nest in Ilshenar North of Blood Dungeon, near Twin Oaks tavern. It spawns about 6 Harpies and 2 Stone Harpies and they respawn as fast as they are killed. Run in the nest, lure them all out, kill the harpies then train on the stone harpies.

    -FD_Pilot

  • Post AoS Melee Skill Gain

    70 % Physical AC dull copper armor...chain coif, tunic, legs, ring, arms, plate gorget, plate/ring arms.

    ~45 Necromancy (a matter of 20 minutes to obtain) and Horrific Beast form.

    Weapon of choice: butcher knife, dagger/kryss, qstaff or fastest mace (I'm too lazy to look macing up).

    Macro in the UO client. It should read something like this:
    {
    [Select your button to press]
    TargetNext
    AttackLast
    }

    You will not need any bandages.

    Turn into Beast form.
    10-27: Buy
    27-45~: Ridgebacks west of Ilsh Compassion Shrine

    45-68: Skeletons at the Yew Crypts. All you need to do is stand in the doorway seperating the two skeleton spawns and let them attack you, as beast form with 70% physical resist they shouldn't be able to kill you, and you should never need to heal.

    68-78~: Lizards at Despise top level. There is one spot where two-four spawn one after another and you can basically back yourself against a corner and hold down the macro posted above with your grubby malformed hand to keep them agro'd to you and not running away. As always AFK macroing with weights is bannable and not allowed. However, since you strictly do not need to really pay attention, move your TV by your computer and watch it since you'll be bored to tears.

    78-100: I suggest Earth Elementals. The best spot for these are Northwest of Sacrifice Shrine past the Ratmen in a cave on the southwest side of the gave. There are two sets of EE spawns here incase someone is using one. Two EE's can not kill you either so again you do not have to pay attention.

    -Bokonon

  • (30-50) Horses, Hinds, Great Harts, but mainly horses.
    (50-65) 6gp fighter no weapon
    (65-75) 7gp broadsword fighter
    (75-88) 8gp fighter with heater shield
    (88-100) I went to malas luna and found an npc paladin hired and gated to jhelom pits.

To Hit Table

This table is simple really. It compares your skill to your target's skill and shows the "To Hit" percentage probability. Again, thanks to T'Koda for compiling and generating this information.
