General
Scribes can write spells on scrolls, create
runebooks and copy books. To effectively use inscription you also need Magery
(you have to be able to cast the spells you want to scribe) and Meditation
(Scribing spells uses mana).
To scribe a scroll use the inscription skill on
a blank scroll and choose which spell to write. You must have the spell in your
spellbook and enough reagents as if you were going to cast the spell. If you have more than one
spellbook, make sure you are holding the correct one in your hand.
To create a runebook you need:
- 1 Gate Travel and 1 Recall scroll
- 8 blank scrolls
- 1 blank rune
Target the rune with the inscription skill to
craft the runebook. The books can have anywhere from 5-10 charges, depending on
your inscription.

Spell Bonuses
From Gyb:
Inscription bonus to spells post AoS
I played around with the Inscription bonus this morning on the test center.
Magery = 100, Med = 100, Eval = 100, Inscription = 0
Reactive Armor +15 physical, -5 elemental (all)
Magic Reflect -25 physical, +10 elemental (all)
Protection -15 physical, 0 elemental, -35 magic resist skill
Magery, Med, Eval = 100, Inscription = 100
Reactive Armor +20 physical, -5 elemental (all)
Magic Reflect -20 physical, +10 elemental (all)
Protection -10 physical, 0 elemental, -30 magic resist skill
So while Inscrition does help, it isn't exactly a huge bonus. Running both RA and MR, with 100 inscribe, would net you 0 physical change, +5 all elemental.
From tonsofguns testing on a Pre AoS Test Shard: Gm Inscribe (wit gm eval and magery) did around 4 - 10 points MORE damage then no inscribe at all[.] [E]ach spell [cast] with inscribe ALWAYS did MORE damage then the person witout inscribe.
Skill Training
From XvekeZ:
| Skill | What to Scribe | Reagents | Note |
| 0-35 | Purple Books | None. | Buy or get two purple books and copy them (must be purple) use inscribe skill, target one book, then the other. |
| 35-65 | Recalls | Black Pearl, Blood Moss, Mandrake Root | These sell like hotcakes, so you want to milk them out as long as you can. |
| 65-85 | Energy Bolt (Some Mark Scrolls) | Black Pearl, Nightshade | Least reagent use do some marks, but not too many. They're not as easy to sell as you'd think. |
| 85-94 | Flame Strike and some Gates | Spider's Silk, Sulphurous Ash/Black Pearl, Mandrake Root, Sulphurous Ash | - |
| 94-100 | Resurrection scrolls | Garlic, Ginseng, Blood Moss | - |
Whenever you can, sell scrolls to players and to NPCs.
Your UOAMacro should look like this:
Use Skill (med)
Wait for Mana (put max mana here)
Use Item Type (scribe pen)
Menu Selection
Menu Selection
Menu Selection
10x
That way you make sure you drain all your mana before medding again [...] trust me, it's faster.

Tips & Tricks
- You can't copy complete spell books. You have
to scribe each of the 64 spells and then drag them onto an empty book.
- To copy a (written) book first target the
book and then an empty one.
- You can buy scrolls from mages, carpenters and monks.
- Less Reagent Use items do -NOT- affect the Inscription skill. You still need the necessary reagents to scribe the spell scroll.
