^ top-A Few Upcoming Events for GL [LeallaRBP] October 29 - 5:02 PM EST | Well folks it looks like the next few days should provide us with some fun and excitement!
First we have the OSI sponsored
Festival of Spirits
All citizens of Britannia are invited to join us in celebrating the Festival of Spirits with an in-game social gathering this Wednesday, October 30th, 2002, at 6:00pm CST (October 31st, 2002, at 12:00am GMT/UTC) at the Skara Brae Community Center. Players from all shards will be in attendance, as will some of the developers of Ultima Online! Rumors persist about a costume contest, so be prepared to dress your scariest (or funniest)!
The Community Center is located just southwest of the nearby Skara Brae Moongate (between the Moongate and the Bank of Skara Brae).
So gather your guys and ghouls, put on your favorite costume and join in on the fun!
Next we have....

Thursday, October 31st at 6 PM CST, the Trick or Treat in Trinsic shall begin. We have 25 guilds signed up to sponsor a building in the city of Trinsic for this event.
Each building will be decorated for the event. There shall be prizes awarded for best decorating. The Great Pumpkin Guild has donated gold for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Judging will take place right before the event starts.
As a precaution against people taking decorations, if anyone sees someone taking them, they will mesage to all other buildings giving the name of the person and that person shall receive no trick or treat bags from any guild.
Come and Trick or Treat in Trinsic. There are lots of goodies being given out. Please remember that the whole town has buildings that shall have guilds in them to hand out bags.
Gates from Haven shall begin about 6: PM CST. Thanks to all the guilds who signed up. Lets go out and have some fun.........
Make it a Spooktacular Evening...... Trinsic Town Council
Sounds like no "tricks" will be tolerated in Trinny *smiles*
Till Next Time... Lealla |
^ top-Brownie points awarded for the latest scenario! [FrozenFire] October 29 - 4:07 PM EST | Scenarios has been with us for well over a year now, and I havent participated all that much. Mostly because they tended to be about simple new monster spawns with some new item drops. Big deal. However, the last scenario changed all that. Not only did we get a fantastic new quest system to play around with, some of the new item drops/tamables were nothing but damn useful.
So whats so good about the latest scenario? And why do I sound like OSI is sending pay checks my way? Read all about it here. As always we welcome your comments as well, so feel free join in!

^ top-Watching OSI's Tournament. [Nieves] October 29 - 11:06 AM EST | Today marks the fourth shard to compete in the OSI-sponsored Tournament of Champions, and so far the response has been amazing! So amazing, in fact, that it's necessary to clarify a few ground rules as to how many people we can get into the viewing area for these fights.
As most of our players know, there is a limit on how many players can be in one area at one time before the servers start to slow down - and when two teams are fighting, it's vital that we not allow the servers to get too clogged. This means that spectators will be allowed, but on a first-come, first serve basis, and when we get to the point where the server begins to be affected by the number of people watching, no more spectators will be allowed inside the viewing area.
We did try allowing players to view as ghosts, but that did not alleviate the lag issue, so we are no longer asking players who want to view the event to come as ghosts. Come as you are, but if you want a good chance at a seat, come early! We can't guarantee anyone a space in the viewing area, but if you want a good chance at one, we recommend getting there a full two hours before the event begins.
As an alternative way of sharing the event with more players, we've also been recording the final bouts of each shard's matches, which will be made available for viewing some time in the near future. As a note, we did not record the final match of the first day's fights on the Atlantic shard, since it wasn't until then that we realized how many people were going to be in attendance! But we did record the final match on Sonoma and Pacific, and have been recording the final match for each shard since. We'll let you know once these are available!
Good luck in attending the Tournaments on your shard, and stay tuned to the Spotlight section at UO.com for interviews with some of the winners!
Hmmm....so in order for me to attend the Great Lakes tournament I have to get off work at 1:30PM so I can get there at 2PM and wait two more hours so I can watch the event?
Anyone else see a problem with this?

^ top-UO News [Nieves] October 29 - 7:01 AM EST | Hi, this is TranSendze from Origin’s QA dept. I’m a gamer from the old days, and have been playing and working on multiplayer games since they were text-based. I can remember the sweet sound of dings and dongs as I logged in at 1200 BAUD to whatever MUD I was going crazy over at the time. I began working at Origin in September of 2001 as a QA tester, and have since moved on to more engineering-oriented tasks. My main focus has been on creating tools that remove some of the pencil-pushing QA has to do, and assist in gathering metrics, which is a necessary task to be able to actually see what worked and what didn’t, and keep improving our processes. I have recently joined a QA Engineering team that is working on a new project within the QA department to help automate some of the aspects of testing Ultima Online.
Many of the tasks we do in QA are quite repetitive, and, in order to catch as many bugs as possible, must be done with each build of the UO client. Having testers spend their time on repetitive and fairly mundane tests takes away from the time they can spend on finding the bugs that take real brain power to reveal. This problem is being addressed through the creation of the Automated Regression Testing system, or ‘ART’.
ART will allow certain aspects of testing the UO client to be automated. As a result of this, we can improve the speed of bug detection through constant day and night testing of the client. This will free QA to spend more time finding bugs, and as a result, produce a higher quality game. Although ART is currently being designed specifically for client testing, the ideas behind it are going to become a part of our overall testing strategy.
If you are wondering how ART will affect you as a player, think of it this way: ART frees up QA time for additional bug smashing, Development spends less time waiting on QA for approval and more time being code monkeys, and content and bug fixes reach players faster and at a higher quality.
So eat cake, drink sake, and cheer ART.
TranSendze Quality Assurance Origin Systems
What they are saying is they created their own version of Easy UO so they can test the UO Client...
Also...
As a reminder, the tapestries and stretched hides obtained as Tailoring Bulk Order Deeds rewards cannot be re-deeded once they are placed. The only way to remove such an item from one’s home after placement is to destroy it in the same way as other “permanent” house add-ons (ovens, forges, etc.), such as by double-clicking an axe and then targeting the tapestry or hide. To avoid having to do this, do not confirm the placement of these items until you are positive the object is positioned exactly where you want it!
What that is saying is they can't code the rewarded tapestries and stretched hides properly. You know, so players can test to see how an item looks before being locked down.
Oh, by the way, housing refresh is still on.
Thanks OSI!

^ top-Festival of Spirits [LeallaRBP] October 26 - 4:28 PM EDT | As promised here is more information on the reason behind the changes to the Councilor's Hall in Skara Brae (Great Lakes Shard) The info comes to us from... Ultma Online FYI
The hallowed Festival of Spirits! From ancient times through today, it has been spoken of in low whispers and reverent tones. Fortune did indeed favor some of our ancestors, and some of those at past festivals quietly reflected on the ghosts of loved ones now lost. But Fate can also be cruel, and other generations found themselves doomed at the grip of rotting, undead flesh!
Heed these words, faithful ones! Britannian elders still say that to go into the night during the festival is dangerous, and to go out alone would mean certain death! You must waste no time in joining us at the new Skara Brae Community Center in Trammel on the Great Lakes shard at the appointed time!
All citizens of Britannia are invited to join us in celebrating the Festival of Spirits with an in-game social gathering this Wednesday, October 30th, 2002, at 6:00pm CST (October 31st, 2002, at 12:00am GMT/UTC) at the Community Center. Players from all shards will be in attendance, as will some of the developers of Ultima Online! Rumors persist about a costume contest, so be prepared to dress your scariest (or funniest)!
The Community Center is located just southwest of the nearby Skara Brae Moongate (between the Moongate and the Bank of Skara Brae), at the following coordinates:
Sextant Coordinates: 45o 58'S, 49o 25'W
UOAM coordinates: X 620, Y 2147
We ask that everyone please be courteous to all attendees, and do not spam text, play music, cast any spells, or bring pets (the Stablemaster is one building to the West of the Community Center) while in the area. A Game Master will be on hand to assist in overseeing the event; disruption of the activities will not be tolerated.
Our sage named Leinad stands within the Community Center to address some of your questions about the Festival of Spirits or OSI staff. Those which he cannot answer may be directed to Sannio at sannio@uo.com
I for one will be there for the Festival! I hope to see many of you there as well!!
Till Next Time... Lealla

^ top-Blast from the past. [Nieves] October 25 - 11:29 AM EDT | As I was looking through the archives, I found this gem. One of Paladin's last, if not THE last submission he had for UOPowergamers.com. I still think it's a good read, and with Age Of Shadows coming out, it might give you some insight into some ideas for making our magery system better.
Enjoy.

^ top-Reproducing the Zero Damage Magery Bug. [Nieves] October 25 - 10:58 AM EDT | If you remember, I posted about OSI not being able to reproduce the 'bug'. Well a reader writes in with some advice to OSI on how they could reproduce it.
Hi, I'm writting to you because you probably have some kind of contact with EA/OSI even if you don't you could post this so they get a better idea of how to "reproduce" it.. I mean I can't believe how freaking stupid they are over there, not knowing about a bug or even carring about it. Anyway I play on atlantic.. There is a liche house a little north of Grizelda the Hag's house.. where a whole bunch of liches spawn. If you take your warrior there and fight them (1v1) almost every other spell does 0 damage. I play on atlantic.. if you can't reproduce this on another shard (which I'm sure you could) I'd be happy to show you how.
Thanks Draxous aka BlacK RaiN
There it is. A 'way' to reproduce the bug.
And for the record, I have no contacts at OSI. They don't like me much...not that I blame them :)
Thanks Black Rain.

^ top-Alchemy Gains [Nieves] October 25 - 10:32 AM EDT | From SQUIRL, an alternative method to training Alchemy. :
This was found on the Stratics message board for optimal alchemy gain. It was submitted by a person named "Greatlaker" on 10/18/02 Optimized Gains making Useful Potions Greetings all!
I GM'd Alchemy from 0 yesterday and wanted to post my results. I used pretty much the same method as listed here for post pub 16 gains, but switched Normal Poison for Agility in the beginning. Only costs 2 shade per attempt, which is not much more reg cost than 1 moss per Agil attempt and I'll USE Normal Poison kegs for poisoning weps when fighting against mages, where I'll NEVER use Normal Agility.
Here was my path, just to give those raising the skill more numbers to crunch:
0-35 Buy from NPC 35-45 Normal Poison (345 Shade) 45-55 Total Refresh (1100 Pearl) 55-65 Greater Agil (1100 Moss) 65-75 Greater Str (2200 Root) 75-85 Greater Heal (6000 Ginseng) 85-97.8 Mix of GCure and GExplo... mixed them up to avoid skill walls: 85-90 Greater Cure (5800 Garlic) 90-92.3 Greater Explo (4000 Ash) 92.3-95.7 Greater Cure (6500 Garlic) 95.7-96.6 Greater Explo (2500 Ash) 96.6-97.8 Greater Cure (3500 Garlic) 97.8-GM Deadly Poison (6000 Shade)
Total Time: 11 Hours give or take 30 minutes
Total Regs: Shade: 6,345 Pearl: 1,100 Moss: 1,100 Root: 2,200 Ginseng: 6,000 Garlic: 15,800 Ash: 6,500
Total Kegs: Normal Poison: 2 (Poison for mage fighting) Total Refresh: 2.25 (Swing speed, push-through, etc.) Greater Agil: 4.75 (+20 Dex) Greater Str: 5.5 (+20 Str) Greater Heal: 13 Greater Cure: 20 Greater Explo: 7 Deadly Poison: 3.75
From 0 to GM, with useful kegs left over. Hope it helps!

^ top-Changes in GL Skara Brae! [LeallaRBP] October 24 - 6:20 PM EDT | Festival of Spirits coming to Great Lakes on October 30th.
As many citizens went about their daily business today in Skara Brae, it seems the OSI fairies were busy changing the big empty Councilor’s Guild into the Skara Brae Community Center.
Community Center entrance
Community Center stage
Community Center dressingroom
As many residents were admiring the new Community Center a surprise visitor appeared … Sannio one of the Online Community Reps from OSI.

He informed the gathering crowd that as early as tomorrow or Monday that an announcement would be made of a Festival of Spirits to be held on the Great Lakes shard. The renovations to the Building were in preparation for the Festival.
Sannio answered several questions from the crowd hinting at combat changes, housing placement and future OSI hosted events. Yes I said hinting … "I think it’s ok to mention that there will be some extra attention out towards some aspects of combat as we near The Age of Shadows Expansion. However, I can’t go into details right now" After inviting folks to save further questions for the Dev team at the event on the 30th he vanished .
So folks take a trip and check out the new Community Center and while you are there stop and cast your votes in the ballot boxes located to the left of the entrance!
Till Next Time… Lealla

^ top-Scamming Update [Nieves] October 24 - 11:14 AM EDT | A UOPG reader managed to get some more information regarding Mr. Bad Magic. If you don't know, he was the one that used Gloin's PW to rape his account. Yes, I said rape. I can say that here. Thank you. Anyway....
Here is some information for any of you wanting to deal with Mr. Bad Magic on Tradespot: ICQ 27403891 Emails Addys: Primary = hexem@aol.com secondary is badmagic@gods-wrath.com
I KNOW the ICQ is valid: [08:16] Sam: Are you still selling all that stuff from Tradespot? Session Close : Thu Oct 24 08:18:08 2002 Session Start (ICQ - :Bad Magic): Thu Oct 24 11:07:43 2002 [11:07] Bad Magic: yes
So, if you want to deal with him and buy the ill gotten goods, be my guest. But, personally, I wouldn't give him shit.
Oh, and Bad Magic, I will make a deal with you. Give Gloin all his shit back (and I do mean all of it) and we will leave you alone once and for all. Otherwise, I make sure certain authorities get the information.
Granted, some say the authorities might not be able to do anything, but maybe they will/can...
Think on it.
BTW: I am told Black Magic is in the Great Lakes portion of the OSI PvP Tournament of Champions.

^ top-Thanks Malynn [Nieves] October 23 - 8:15 AM EDT | Okay, here is the scoop. Player-named statues are indeed legal. The caveat here is that the player name needs to be legal. If I have a statue named "Statue of Greywolfe", that's fine. If I have a statue named after a player with an inappropriate name, then the statue is illegal. There are no exploits that I know of that are associated with the player-named statues. :)
-Greywolfe
Am I the only one that sees something wrong with that statement?
I guess.
The systems share display (gump), localization, random item choosing, monetary rewards, fame rewards, etc... There are a few rules that separate them in the code (list of reward items, list of LBOD/SBOD's, etc). The rewards are calculated based on a few different variables (size, quality, type). A pool is a misleading term describing how the items are chosen. An example (this is not the exact point system or levels of point grading): 1) a bod that rewards 5 points 2) a bod that rewards 15 points Reward levels: 1 to 10 points rolls between colored cloth of type 1 or type 2 (8 different colors) 10 to 20 points rolls between colored cloth of type 3 or type 4 (8 different colors) So, the first bod could be a low level cloth color and the second would be slightly rarer or harder to get cloth. Also, percentages inside a level can be moved to make something more common in that level than other items in it (powerscrolls, as you have found out, are much harder to get than runic or ancient smithy hammers). That's the gist behind how the reward system works. The levels go all the way up through to the highest available point in the system. Hanse
In the words of someone special: "interesting and confusing".

^ top-Top Ten Player Misconceptions About Ships/Sailing in UO [Nieves] October 21 - 3:54 PM EDT | From Turbulent Waters:
Every day I surf message boards looking for news about ships and sailing in Ultima Online, and often find that players in the game who use ships are misinformed about them or misunderstand some of the dangers in their use. One of the reasons I created The Turbulent Waters back in April of 2000 was to clear up these misconceptions, but there is no way to reach every player on every shard. Nonetheless, the crusade continues, and here are the top ten such misconceptions that I see posted on a repeated basis among players who use ships:
10. My Ship Stops On Invisible Barriers At Sea What is most likely happening here is a server boundary issue. When a ship tries to cross a server boundary and stops, there is often another ship on the next server over, which of course is invisible until one crosses, that is blocking passage. Simply sail along the server boundary a bit and try to cross elsewhere.
This can also happen at what is called a subserver transfer crossing. These server boundaries are different, because the player is not entering a new subserver, just a different part of the same subserver. For example, this occurs when one sails north from Dagger (Ice) Island, off the top of the map, and enters south of Fire Island on the bottom of the map. This crossing always stops a ship, and usually repeating one's commands to the tillerman will get the ship through these crossings.
There do exist, in some places, unexplained invisible obstacles at sea. There was an old bug where parts of a ship could be left behind when it sailed away, creating obstacles for other ships who passed there later. This is a rare occurrence, however.
9. I Need My Master Key to Drydock My Ship When a ship is placed, two master keys are created, one in the player's backpack and one in their bank box. It is not recommended that the player carry the master keys around with them, but rather use a copy of the master key, especially in Felucca. One of the greatest prizes a thief desires is your master boat key, because if they get that they can immediately recall to your ship, sail it to shore, and drydock it, making it theirs forever.
A copy of the master key cannot be recalled off of though. However, a copy can be used to drydock your ship. So, if you have to travel around on dry land with your ship key in Felucca, remember to make a copy of the master key first. That way, even if a thief gets your key, he has no way other than checking every ship on the shard to steal your actual ship. If he does happen to steal your key copy, be sure to go to the bank, recall off the master key, and drydock your ship as soon as possible. Drydocking creates a new set of master keys and makes the old ones worthless. 8. Ships are Expensive When I started playing UO in January of 1998, times were tough. Playerkillers dominated the few monster spawn points and it took a great effort for my friend and I to scrape together the gold for our first ship. Today, however, things are a lot different. Piles of loot and other items are often left by players at banks and spawn points, so by simply doing a little scavenging a new player could have the gold for a ship in just a few hours. Plus there are many, many more spawn points of varying difficulty.
Another important lesson to remember is to shop around. While the prices of ships in Trammel are set, the prices in faction-controlled towns in Felucca can fluctuate. When a faction first siezes control of a town, I believe, the prices are often set lower, and a small ship can cost less than 8000 gold pieces. And if you can't wait to make that much gold, look around - there are often unlocked ships left near shores that players can take for a joyride.
7. The Only Place to Boat-Mine is North of Minoc The cliffs North of Minoc have always been the most popular area for boat-mining, but are hardly the only place to do so. There are even more seaside cliffs, with little competition, in the Lost Lands. Other great boat-mining spots include Serpent's Hold, where if conditions are right you can bank your ore from the deck of your ship, and near the village of Cove.
6. Drydocked Ships are Stealable/It's Difficult to Drydock A drydocked ship in one's main backpack is perfectly safe, also called "blessed", and is not only unstealable and unlootable, but will remain with a player's ghost when the resurrect. Recently, in the Lost Lands area known as Terra Sanctum of the Felucca facet, dozens of ships are being left behind and eventually lost by adventurers who sail there to fight the champion spawn and fail to drydock when they reach the beach. Drydocking is not only completely safe and can be done from just about any shoreline, but it is also considerate to other seafarers who need to access the same shoreline.
Another reason players may not be drydocking their ship is that they cannot be drydocked if there are items on the deck or hold. Everything from a monster corpse and its blood stain to a hidden ghost that has tagged along can prevent drydocking.
5. Deploying a Ship is Difficult When one deploys their ship, they are given a ghost image to facilitate placement. However, this ghost image does not represent where the actual ship will be placed. Instead, one should rely on where the targeting cursor is. The spot targeted is where the base of the ship's mast will be, so by placing accordingly one will have a better understanding of how placement works. There is a limit as to how far out a ship can be placed, and if one tries to place it too close to the land, they will also be blocked.
There can be problems placing a ship from land that is much higher than sea level or even with the sea level. If one attempts to place from a high cliff, they may have difficulty due to the targeting cursor needing to be almost off the screen to place. If a player tries to deploy a ship from a very low shoreline, such as a sloping beach that is right on the edge of the water, they may be prevented and must take a step back (and thus up +1 on the Z-axis) to successfully place their ship. And there are places where, by design, ship placement has been prevented such as dungeon waterways, Serenity Lake (north of the Shrine of Justice), Haven Lake, the small lake on Newhaven Island, and Ilshenar.
4. My Ship Can Only Move in Four Directions Time and again in sea battles I see players only moving their ships in the four compass directions, and turning left and right. Such a limited maneuvering repertoire can be costly in such battles. A ship can also move in the diagonal directions of forward right, forward left, back left, and back right. The two forward diagonal directions are especially useful, for with them one can cut off less informed seafarers who are still using the four compass directions.
3. The Sea is So Big and Takes Hours to Cross I wish the seas of Sosaria were that big, but alas they are not. I once did a study of sailing times, and found that it takes only a few minutes to sail between most cities. Here's a few examples, in minutes: Yew, near Empath Abbey to Moonglow Docks --- 7:00 Britain Docks to Buccaneer's Den Docks --- 7:30 Britain Docks to Cove Docks --- 5:30 Jhelom South Dock to Skara Brae Main Dock --- 12:30 Entire North-South Length of the Map --- 18:30 Entire East-West Length of the Map --- 35:00 I've seen many players complain that it takes too long to sail to shore when they are done fishing or macoring at sea to bother to drydock their ships. The truth is, that even the most remote part of the sea, which lies between Magincia and Skara Brae and Moonglow and Fire Island is only about a five minute sail at the most from land. With the UO Automap utility (see the links section), knowing where one is at sea and where the nearest land is located is easy, and thus the seas will not seem as vast as they might initially appear.
2. Death at Sea is an Unrecoverable Fiasco I've got a section about Death at Sea on the Dangers of the Sea section of this site, but I'll recap the basics here again.
First off, let me state clearly that there is virtually no circumstance of death at sea where the player will not be able to make a full recovery of their ship and their corpse. Players in UO take death so seriously (I've been just as guilty of this in the past) that they often panic and make msitakes as a ghost that can cost them more than they should lose. So, when sailing, always keep a few facts in mind in case of death:
1. Your ghost can still give orders and steer your ship (as long as no living players have boarded). Yes, the tillerman is a Grandmaster Spirit Speaker, who knew?
2. When at sea, a town with a healer and a bank is at the most about 7 minutes away. Use UO Automap and, when you die, immediately figure out which town is nearest and set sail for it. Remember, however, that Nujelm currently has no healer whatsoever, so avoid it.
3. Your ghost can only open the plank of your ship when your character is in war mode. Also, remember to make sure that you don't have "Always Run" checked under the Options menu. Finally, remember that you can only depart on shores that are at or near the same elevation as the sea level. High cliffs will prevent your departure.
4. When you get ashore, get ressed, heal up, and run to the bank, and if you can recall do so off the master key. If you cannot cast recall, take the key and run back to your ship, making sure no one's around, and board and recover your corpse. When you have finished be sure to return your master key to your bank as soon as possible.
Just like dying anywhere in UO, death at sea can be a lot less painful if one is prepared for it.
1. Ships are Safe for Storage At least once a month I see a post from a player who wonders why his full set of ranger armor was looted from his boat hold. Ships are not, and have never been, safe for storage. Sure, when out fishing, storing stuff in the hold is pretty much safe. But assembling a small fleet of boats next to the shore and filling them up with the same sort of items you would keep in a bank box is just asking for trouble.
OSI's policy is that ships are not meant to be used as storage, and perhaps that is why they have made no effort to prevent any of the 4 methods which I personally know of to enter a locked ship. Sure, if a Gamemaster catches someone in the act of using such an exploit they might be inclined to punish them, but they certainly won't go out of their way to catch the exploiters that regularly get rich off of ship holds. Players have been known throughout UO's history to hoard tons of even the most useless of items if given the chance. If boat holds were made secure, the entire ocean, as well as every lake and river, would fill up in a matter of weeks with boats being used to store such prized possessions as daggers of ruin, bulk order deeds, beeswax, and plants. The result would lag up the servers even more than they are now. Thus, I suspect that OSI is prefectly content to let boats remain unsecure, as sort of an underhanded way to prevent their use as additional storage.
So never, ever leave anything of value in the hold of your boat. In fact, it's really best to drydock your boat after every use if possible, just to be safe.
This concludes the Turbulent Waters Top Ten List of Player Misconceptions About Ships and Sailing in Ultima Online. Clip and save this list for future reference. Pass it along to a seafaring friend. Just spread the word in any way you can, because I'm sure that I'm not the only one tired of seeing novice seafarers having a bad sailing experience because of these misconceptions.
A ship is a terrible thing to waste.

^ top-Oh, How Funny [Nieves] October 21 - 3:44 PM EDT | Due to technical issues, emails sent to gmreviews@uo.com were not getting through to our GM staff for a short period of time. These issues have since been resolved, and the GMs are now able to review and address all emails that have been submitted. If you’ve sent an email to gmreviews@uo.com within the past couple of weeks and have not received a reply, we sincerely apologize for the holdup. There’s no need to resubmit the email, as none have been lost; however, there may be an additional delay as the GMs work to get caught up with the resulting backup of messages. We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience in this matter and, again, apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused.
Think you can fix your other email addresses too?

^ top-It's official [LeallaRBP] October 21 - 11:17 AM EDT | Lake Austin is now open to all. Information from FYI
The newest North American shard, Lake Austin, is now open to all players worldwide. We encourage players to come on over and visit the Lake Austin shard, named after the birthplace of Ultima Online! It's thanks to you that we're still growing, and we're very happy to be able to provide a new place to settle and play.
From the same article comes news of another New Shard.
We're also very pleased to announce the opening of the Sakura shard in Japan as of October 21, 2002 CDT! Sakura is currently the 8th Japanese Ultima Online shard and our 26th shard worldwide. The name Sakura is borrowed from the national flower of Japan, where Sakura trees boast beautiful blossoms during springtime. As part of our localized shard policy, Sakura will be open only to players located in Japan for the first 60 days, allowing local citizens to build a community base and to allow us to ensure a satisfactory level of local support.
Let the fun begin.

^ top-UOPG Forums Move [Nieves] October 19 - 10:45 AM EDT | I moved uopg.falsehope.com yesterday afternoon to a completely different server in a different location on a different link to the net...
Old machine: P2 233mhz w/ 256megs, Redhat 5.2 w/php-4.0.6 on a business-class cable connection from TimeWarner...
New machine: Dual P3 800mhz w/ 1gig, Redhat 7.3 w/php-4.1.2 on dual t1's from Qwest...
The change in php versions is what caused the problem... I had to modify the board to compensate.... should be good to go now...
You should actually see a noticable speed increase as well...

^ top-We Can't Reproduce It. Help! [Nieves] October 18 - 7:02 AM EDT | …The problem that we've been having with fixing the zero damage bug is simply that we can't reproduce it consistently to fix it, and if we can't nail it down, we can't fix it. Can you send details about what you are doing and where, when you experience this problem? Any information that we can get to help us narrow down the cause will get us that much closer to creating a solution. Please be assured that we are working to resolve the bug; it certainly hasn't been tabled until AoS as has been speculated later in this thread.
Um...we cast offensive spells (not debuffs), it does no damage. That's it. What's there to reproduce? There is NO pattern to it. It just happens. Have you considered playing with the random damage generator and see what the numerical results were instead of trying to 'reproduce' it in game? Hell, you can use a 'battle' model using all the code and have some debug code spitting out numbers to see what's happening.
Oh, sorry, I am helping you do the job. I will shut up now.

^ top-Halloween Housing Collapses and Death Robe Warning - Spooky! [Hennarr] October 17 - 10:24 PM EDT | For all of you home owners waiting to hear about the third phase of the new Housing changes, you can relax for just a bit longer. Our current estimate for turning off auto-refreshing of homes is the last week of October, but we’ll post another update once we have the definite date!
And we’d also like to point out a current issue that is resulting in a death shroud being found in a player’s pack after being resurrected. Note that this refers to the actual shroud that signifies a dead character, not the typical death robe that is normally found on players once they resurrect.
We will be implementing a fix to prevent these shrouds from appearing in players’ packs after they resurrect, so we’d appreciate it if you didn’t call our GM staff to report this (we’re aware of it!). Also note that right now, these shrouds will not persist after the server goes down. That means that if you currently have one of these in your possession, or locked down in your house, it will no longer be there once the server comes back up from its daily maintenance. Please do not sell, buy or trade these death shrouds, as they are not permanent!

^ top-New Tailoring BoD Results [Nieves] October 17 - 11:56 AM EDT | In regards to the special leather tailor bods; they now give a higher reward than do regular leather bods of the same type. In a very small sampling of 4 sbods and 1 lbod I have found that the reward type is one higher than for regular leather or cloth. But it is only 1 higher for all types of special leathers as well as all bone armor.
I found that an sbod of 10 spined items gives the same reward as a leather sbod of 20 items. An lbod of 20 spined items gave the same reward as a leather lbod of 20 EQ items. The bods i turned in and the rewards are below. Compare them to a good reward chart such as at Tower of Roses to see what I found.
10 leather skirt spined EQ - dark blue cloth 10 leather bustier barbed EQ - neon green cloth 100 (20) studded spined N - ice green cloth 20 leather skirt spined EQ - red/blue cloth 20 bone legs spined N - neon yellow cloth
Have fun.

^ top-An Alternate Way to Easy Provoke Gain!!! [Nieves] October 17 - 11:52 AM EDT | Okies, I have read the tips and tricks on getting beatles, or drakes or whatever and putting them on a boat, and thats fine and dandy and im sure it works, but its tedious. To me it takes too much setup time, keep in mind im impatient. This is my first post here, and just so happens its a new topic, yay me. Anyhow on to the provoke gaining method. First you will wanna get yourself a bagfull of instruemnts, you will want non gm crap from the tinkers shop, buy all the same type to make things easier. Then go to yew, tram or fel, doesent matter, Id say tram if your the kind to go afk while you macro.... You will want to find one of the overrun sheeps pen's, that have been messed up due to the Plague spawn thing. Go out and find you 2 plague beasts, lead em back to the fence, and tele over. If your at 90 + provoke which you will need for this to gain for you, you can back up far enough that their poison breath cant damage you so no worry there. Now you will want to setup a UO Assist macro thats something like this.
Use Skill/Cast Spell Target Target Pause 10500 Use Skill/Cast Spell Target Target Pause 10500
The reason for the multiple targets is, you will want to cross provoke, so when you do your macro, set it up for Provoke plague beast 1 on plague beast 2, then provoke plague beast 2 on plague beast 1. The pauses may be a bit off depending on your lag so fiddle around with that if you need to.

^ top-Terra Sanctum Champion Spawn - The New Haven Barrior? [Nieves] October 16 - 9:23 AM EDT | By the crazy fisherman at Turbulent Waters
Careless seafarers venturing to the champion spawn in the remote area called Terra Sanctum of Felucca are leaving behind a graveyard of unclaimed and unlocked ships the likes of which have not been seen since the Haven Barrier (see the archives) was in full swing. With the recall spell disabled in that area, seafarers who lose their lives fighting the champion spawn at Terra Sanctum have some difficulty reclaiming their vessels. In addition, the small lagoon is constantly crowded with ships, leading me to believe that the Gamemasters are intervening when players are having trouble reaching those shores.
What I have observed over the last week in that area is a vast collection of ships on the opposite shore, where the desert meets the sea, all with their planks unlocked and extended. The layout of these ships seems to indicate that a Gamemaster sent them straight west from Terra Sanctum, unlocking their planks so that players who are searching for their own ships have a chance to find them in the "graveyard". I have also seen many other ships with their planks unlocked throughout the Lost Lands seaways, indicating that other players are coming along and taking the vessels for joyrides.
When the ideas about placing champion spawns in the Lost Lands were first discussed, I asked the development team about both the blocking issue and the abandoned ship issues, and their response was that there would be teleporters to remote places and thus it would not be a problem. However, there is no such teleporter in Terra Sanctum, which makes me wonder if it was simply forgotten or intentionally left out by the developers as an experiment in how the players who were sailing to Terra Sanctum would handle themselves.
I can safely say that the players have failed, possibly due to their own ignorance about how ships work. Perhaps the great majority of players sailing to Terra Sanctum simply do not realize that they can drydock their ships, placing a ship model in their backpacks that is unlootable? Or perhaps players see the crowding on the beach of Terra Sanctum and leave their ships behind for fear of being trapped there if they are unable to deploy their ships after their hunt? And maybe they just don't care about their ships and think of them as disposable. They certainly are cheap enough to replace in this age of multi-millionaires in Sosaria. Either way, ships are being lost in Terra Sanctum Felucca, and it seems that the Gamemasters are having to waste their valuable time moving ships that block the beach there. If OSI is unwilling or unable to put a teleporter in Terra Sanctum, then they should take other measures to alleviate this issue, from placing warning signs along the beach telling players to drydock their ships or risk them being deleted, to making it so that if a player dies in the Lost Lands their ship is drydocked (all items in the hold deleted or dropped onto the water) and returned to them when they resurrect. Another option is to make ship keys a lootable object in the dungeon/Lost Lands subservers again, encouraging pirates to take care of the situation. In any case, OSI should do something about the situation, if for no other reason than to free up some of their Gamemasters' valuable time.
Forethought right? Just checking.

^ top-Bug Fixes [Nieves] October 16 - 8:37 AM EDT | We’ve recently released a publish to the Lake Superior shard that contains the following fixes:
An issue that caused large, leather Tailoring Bulk Order Deeds to yield the same rewards, no matter which type of leather, has been fixed. Players should now receive the appropriate rewards when turning in large, high-level Tailoring BODs.
An issue that caused the paints given out in Elwood's Quest to become stuck in an "in use" state has been resolved.
Blade spirits and energy vortices should now properly attack creatures within range.
Barring any unforeseen issues, these fixes should be released to all shards on Wednesday, October 16th CDT, to be active following their regularly scheduled morning maintenance periods.

^ top-Packetloss and OSI [Nieves] October 15 - 8:29 PM EDT | How long have we, the players, been telling OSI that Above.net just plain sucks? Really, how long?? Well...tonight, you get a guest writer to pride you with some information on Above.net, Spring, EA, and our wonder connectivity to US Shards.
Maybe some of you have heard about the packetloss from hell, affecting most notably the Midwest and very specifically, Michigan. I live in Michigan, have lived here my whole life. I’ve played UO for three years with a one year break, one year on my faithful old 56k and more recently, my ADSL from Ameritech. I started playing again on Halloween, 2001. I’ve had an optimal connection, for me, 80-90 ms ping (yeah, not that great) with 0% packetloss. This kind of changed about a month and a half ago. Here is an example of my daily UO life after 3 pm EST.

Recently, there was a peering issue between Sprint and MFNX, or Metromedia Fiber Network. I’ve heard dates of this issue being fixed from two weeks to the end of this month. Now, why am I mad? Go to MFN.com and look in the top, right corner. You see “The New MFN” What does this mean? MFN filed for bankruptcy in May 2002. You may remember MFN from such things as everyone’s Above.net troubles (read, bottom of the front page, AboveNet September 1999). What does this have to do with EA? EA is buying bandwidth from a bankrupt company that is undergoing restructuring and cannot fix their own problems. Can EA buy bandwidth elsewhere? They sure as hell can! I never had this problem two months ago! Hell, two months ago I could run Tales and Ales and PvM all day and night! Now, my wake at 7 am to take my sister to school schedule pays off. I play till I gotta go to school, then I hang out in IRC and on ICQ all night. That’s my UO day. Now let me tell you all, I love UO. I am not one of those “screw OSI and EA! I’m still gunna play your game, but bitch about it!” hypocrites. No, no… I love OSI and EA for giving us this game, but I am simply fed up with not being able to play the game that I pay for every month. I want OSI and EA to pressure MFN and Sprint to get this issue resolved NEXT WEEK, not later this month. I want to be able to play UO again and be able to run Tales and Ales Tavern, to go to High Council Meetings and to play like yer lovely Lealla and Nieves get to. I have looked into this and I am… thoroughly annoyed at my findings. I just wanted to bring this to the attention of those lucky enough not to be affected. Thanks everyone, for listening to my non sense! Nate Byrd
All of you shocked because Nate Byrd wrote an article for UOPG, hush. This is too important and affects everyone.
Thanks to Nate for the article.
Now...as far as who it affects, this isn't just about Michigan. This about a BIG part of the player base.
I am glad a 'red name' is asking for input on this. But, um, hello!? How many emails, phone calls and board complaints you got to get before you realize: "hey, maybe there really is a problem?"
And it truly shocks me that MFN, who bought and owns Above.net, went into bankrupcty. Well, wait, does it really? We all knew Above.net sucks. Well, so did other businesses. I mean, they wouldn't have gone bankrupt had they had businesses signing up to use their 'steller' performance would they? Or was it because: However, in growing the business we, along with others in the industry, out-paced the demand and, as a result, are overbuilt." Um. Yeah. You guys be the judge. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised after all, eh?
Er...dammit, Regulus is rubbing off on me. Damn Canadians. Anyway...
OSI/EA Austin- Fix your fucking bandwidth/connectivity issues.
You just launched Above & Beyond. And The Sims are coming.
Any bets this will get fixed before The Sims goes live? I mean, UO isn't as important as The Sims now is it?

Harro. I've been reading this forum for a long time, and I finally got around to registering. Blah blah blah, now to the information.
I've had many people ask me where Juggernauts are in Ish, so here is my short writeup:
First, take the Compassion gate. Then, continue S, staying close to the mountain until you reach the entrance to the Central Area, at 91o 24'N 5o 58'W. Slightly to the SW of here is the Ruined Castle, with the entrance at 85o 31'N 14o 41'W. Enter the castle, and you can take a picture of the Juggernaut through the wall, if you don't feel like fighting. Occasionally you may find a Juggernaut on the outside near the castle, but often you will have to go inside the castle.
Another things I noticed while I was there was the Tribal Berry tree. Yes, you can use Telekenisis on the berries, if you want to eat a blue apple

^ top-Jade And Nieves Has Ideas. [Nieves] October 14 - 10:23 PM EDT | I was talking to Nieves of UOPG today about the upcoming Tournament of Champions and the rule excluding reds. We were discussing a lot of the posts we'd seen in reply to reds complaining about this rule that basically said "Why don't you guys quit whining and put on your own tourney?". Well, as we talked about it, we thought "why not?" We were thinking that if the fansites got together and worked this out, we could put on a tourney for each shard that would include reds, blues, oranges..whoever wanted to participate. I ran weekly tournaments of this type for about two years, so it's certainly something I am familiar with and I see no reason why we couldn't do this shard-wide.
But, we would need support from players on each shard, as this will be a shard-wide event that will be sponsored, hosted, and run completely by the players of UO.
My question for you all: Do you think players would get behind this idea and help out with sponsoring? We are aiming for a prize of a million gold for each shard. I'd like to see the prize donated by sponsors and not have an entry fee to fight. We would also need a person on each shard to offer use of their Felucca tower roof for the night of the tourney on their shard, that would be willing to friend the staff for the tourney for that shard. We'd need staff members for each shard as well. We would of course offer much love for the sponsors and hosts on each shard on every site that participates.
Do you think people would get behind this idea and help out? Would you personally be willing to help out in some way on your shard? (either by sponsoring, hosting, or helping to staff?) Let me know what you think of this idea.
*I will personally donate the prize money and provide the tower for Napa Valley. I also have a tower that can be used on Lake Austin and a promise from someone to put up the gold. Nieves will handle sponsorship and tower space on Great Lakes.

^ top-Ant Quest Bug. [Nieves] October 14 - 11:39 AM EDT | So here's the low down... I spend wed. evening doing all the ant quests. After I am done I sit down in the solen hives about 4 hours farming gold off the queen using nothing but ev's. I wake up thur. morning (after publish went live) and decide to do more of the same gold farming. I head down to the hives and start in. Ev's wont attack anything. So I switch to bs's. Same result! Ugh wtf... nice change to keep me from farming gold right? Well to test this I head to Shame. What do ya know same results over and over no matter where I go. Ok fine lets summon a few creatures see how that works. "Your creature refuses to attck this". Ummm ok really wtf? No matter where I go or what I try it on same same same. So I call GM... after waiting in a que that was 87 people long I am transported to the god room. I begin to tell her the story. She quickly cuts me off with "I know what is wrong we need to change your attack list". Um ok so do it. "You must be willing to sacrafice some karma" Ummm huh? this is your fault but I have to sacrafice? So I say "well why do I have to sacrafice what did i do?" She asks if Ive done a quest. Well yes... "that is why" she said "but the fix is currently in the ork mask" "changes your attack list" ok now lemme get this straight.... i can do ur quests but if i wanna ever kill stuff again I have to put a mask on and take it off to be normal again? So I say "Ummm.... mam this doesnt seem right" Her answer is "Yes it's a known issue and something they can not ignore" "They are working on fix as we speak". So there ya have it... either dont do a quest, or go throught a bunch of bullshit to be normal again after doing so. Nice BUG!!!!

Also please note, if I can find a way around some of the gating factors around allowing reds on other shards we will review the descion. Let me check on some things tomorrow and I will follow up.
-Maleki
It now says:
"Im lookin at siege currently, to see if we can allow reds there.. I do not see much of a problem with it for siege since guards do not kill murders in town. Edited by Maleki on 10/11/02 02:13 AM (server time)."
Okey. I will let you folks be the judge.

^ top-New Witch Quest [Nieves] October 10 - 7:03 PM EDT | Read about it here.
Everything you need to know is there.
I have mixed feelings on this. I absolutely love the quest. It's something different, and it shows a powerful desire to get away from random and pointless monster bashing.
Sometimes I like playing a game that tells me to do A, then C, go to B, and get Z. That's why I loved Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Diablo I & II and like games. There is a reason you are doing something.
On the other hand I am disappointed. I was told at the UO Faire by Calandryll that they can't do a quest system after I recommended it. Well...here we are.
They can. I KNOW for a fact OSI can do anything they want if they have the will, time, and the corporate 'dude' saying "WE WILL DO IT!".
Go out and try the quests. I don't care if you are a PvPer, pure PvMer, or a Bank Sitting Bitch, go out and try the Hag/Witch Quest.
On my quest, I got a cauldron (I am told you get one at the completion of every quest), 30 of each reagent, a level 4 map, a useless dagger, and a useless magic gnarled staff. Some folks are getting vanq krysses and spears out of this. Oh, and to all you Rare Hunters and Buyers....bend over. It's coming. What you have seen in the last year is only the beginning.
So, OSI, you get kudos out of this Quest system. It's cool, and it's engaging (finding some of the spots is like finding a Treasure Hunting Spot without access to a library). And it's a good diversion from monster bashing or PKing in my opinion (you get better loot from this than PKing in Felucca Dungeons; trust me). And it shows you truly can do something the players want.
Just don't tell someone "we can't do that" anymore.

^ top-TBOD Fix Coming? Maybe. [Nieves] October 9 - 6:07 PM EDT | Hey folks.
I know that I haven't been too active on the forums recently, mostly because I've got a lot of catching up to do and all kinds of external processes to deal with. Heck, I've even been travelling out of state on business already!
However, this particular issue has been circulated by the Dev Team and QA and we are now evaluating the possibility of publishing it sooner rather than later. Despite some of the speculation and despair found in this thread, I'd like to assure you that we do pay attention.
As all of you know, there are many, many issues remaining to be fixed in UO, and each one has to be considered from many perspectives. This particular issue may have a lot of things going for it. I'm having the team do an code impact analysis for QA to determine the risk. This isn't a gaurantee, but if it is truly low-risk (from a QA and resources perspective) then it has a shot.
I hope this reinfoces the fact that the UO Live Service does listen (and so will I).
We'll let you know once a decision is made.
-- SunSword Producer, Ultima Online
Sunsword is the man.
Nieves is pleased. Nieves is very pleased.
Yeah yeah, shut up. There are other bugs out there that are just as important. But, would this have been fixed if Sunsword wasn't around? Maybe. Maybe not. Think about it...
Thanks to Noxville for the information.

^ top-The Tailoring BoD Fix Is Done! [Nieves] October 8 - 11:01 PM EDT | But it's not getting published yet.
*blows dust off the news editor*
Okay, as you all must know by now, Tailoring BOD's are broken, all leather (be it new leather or standard leather) BOD's are treated as the same, thus blocking off all the top prizes. Joy. I've reported on this before, anyhow, moving along.
Okay, as you all must know, good ol' Hanse (no saracasm, I like Hanse) has stated that this bug is of low priority and will be fixed in do time. I don't have much to say on this subject, much more then (%#^*(#!$%&*.
You see, this whole process OSI has going, is the same ol thing we've dealt with forever. OSI says "Bend over" and the player base says "Should I touch my toes?".
But this TBOD saga gets better, today on the Yahoo Ultima News Group Hanse admitted that the fix is actually already done, BUT, the priority problem is actually in the testing and publishing part! Oh my gosh! They have the fix and they can't test it?! Why?! Oh yah, the next stinking expansion! Grrr!!!
You can't fault a company for making an expansion, but you can fault them for charging you for a BROKEN service. So here it is...
OSI I fault you for a broken service. For promises said and repeatedly broken.
For constently saying "community" when you actually mean "money". For showing a lack of "doing good by the customer" policies. In short, I fault you.
-----------------------------------------
Later, Orion the UO Compendium
I bet you won't see this on other sites...(yes, that's a challenge).
Orion of the UOCompendium sent it to me from his site. Is it true? I think so. I think they do have the fix but won't release it yet.
And know what? That fucking stinks. A fix to an important feature of the game needs to get released now! Not when AoS is released. Not just before. NOW!
Hanse, you are the man. I tell you that every chance I get. But don't let these asshoes allow your BoD system to stay fucked up. If you fucking need too, let me know, I know a few thousand people that would love to test your 'fix'.

^ top-Can I Get Linked Now? [Nieves] October 8 - 10:35 PM EDT | Well, as you know, Lealla's Royal Brit Post was turned down for OSI's Fansite Linking program. Jade didn't agree with it. And even what some consider a UO Cheerleader had their say on it.
You see, after Lealla's site was redone by Talanithus of UOLS, Tal recommended she go for official OSI Fansite Linking. Lealla asked me and I said sure. I voiced my doubts because of my hosting the site, but remarked "The worse they could say is no". Well, they said, 'no'.
Why?'

^ top-Tournament Of Champions [Nieves] October 8 - 7:21 PM EDT | Origin Systems is hosting an officially sanctioned player-versus-player (PvP) event: the Tournament of Champions!
The tournament will be a series of 2-on-2 “fight-night” style events with sixty-four teams from each of the 14 participating shards battling it out for the honor of becoming the shard champions! And that’s not all—the 14 winning teams will advance to a final battle on Test Center, where the winners will be crowned the best duelists in UO!
Participants will be asked to pay an in-game fee of 25,000 gold coins per person, to be collected just before the match. Matches will be scheduled out over several weeks, so whether you're looking to join in the tournament or just show your support by cheering on your favorite fighters, be sure to check the schedule below. If you are going to join in, please make sure to read all the information below very carefully.
If you think you have what it takes to be the best of the best, read on!
Set-up & Rules: Participants should be familiar with the following details regarding the Tournament of Champions:
Good sportsmanship must be shown before, during, and after the entire Tournament of Champions. TOS and ROC will be enforced throughout the entire event. No spamming or manifesting will be permitted by participants or spectators. Breaking of any of these rules will result in disqualification. All players in the Tournament of Champions must fight as two-person teams. Sixty-four teams from each of 14 shards (see the listing of shards below) will be accepted to participate. If either member of the team does not show up for a scheduled fight, the team will be disqualified. Each participant will need to pay an in-game entry fee of 25,000 gold coins (that’s 50,000 gold coins per two-person team). Each two-person team must pay this entry fee to a Game Master immediately before the start of their first match. The entry fee will only need to be paid once per person. Failure to pay the entry fee will result in a disqualification. No refunds will be given in the event of a disqualification for any reason. All fights will take place in the Jhelom arena. Both members of each two-person team must be in the city of Jhelom at least 5 minutes prior to their scheduled bout. Tournament officials will summon the combatants into the Jhelom arena at the time of the battle. Failure to appear for your scheduled match will result in a disqualification. Combatants may bring personal items into the competition, with the exception of the following: No more than 12 combined potions. No pets or mounts will be allowed. Runic weapons will not be permitted. Combatants may use any skills or spells except for the following: No hiding will be allowed. No use of the Invisibility spell will be allowed. No summoning spells (Summon Fire Elemental, Summon Demon, etc.) of any kind will be allowed. On the days scheduled below, 64 teams will compete on each shard, and one winning team will be chosen per shard. There will be 32 separate fights, each lasting five minutes. Each fight will pit one two-person team against another two-person team, and will be a fight “to the death.” The team with the last member alive will be declared the winner of that match. At the end of 5 minutes, if a winner has not been determined, the tournament officials will make a judgment call as to who will advance. A more aggressive team will win over a less aggressive team—number of survivors, damage done, demonstration of combat skills, and even avoidance of combat will all be factors. Only the winning team of each match will advance to the next round. There will be 6 rounds of fights on each shard on the appointed day, after which one team will emerge the winner. All judgments of the tournament officials are final. Once a combatant falls, he/she will be removed from the arena by tournament officials. Players will not be allowed to loot one another; the loss of items will not be permitted. The winning teams from the 14 participating shards will advance to the Grand Champion matches. These Grand Champion matches will take place on a Test Center shard (schedule and rules to be announced). All winning teams may be asked to participate in in-game promotional events or interviews for the UO.com website. Prizes will be awarded to the winning teams on each shard, and a grand prize will be awarded to the ultimate winner on Test Center. GMs will grant each of the winners a special paperdoll title and a specially labeled sash, created uniquely for this PvP Tournament. Registering: Players who wish to fight in the Tournament of Champions must first register in two-person teams with OSI. To register, one of the teammates must send an e-mail that lists the chosen shard and both character names to the appropriate address below. Spelling must be exact. Only one entry is allowed per two-person team; multiple entries will be disqualified from participating.
If you want to fight on: Use this e-mail address:

^ top-An Editorial/Rant [LeallaRBP] October 8 - 3:05 PM EDT | The Royal Britannian Post is a news site for Role-Players and the Great Lakes Community. The post started as part of one man’s vision to unite all RPers on Great Lakes. It started out as a paper for a small group of guilds called the Quest for Britannia (QfB). I was offered the position as Editor in Chief of the Post and threw myself into making it a place people would enjoy reading about the adventures, events and stories of the QfB. A place where all the associated guilds could visit and see what was happening around them and perhaps join in on a quest or event another guild was hosting.
As the QfB grew so did the typical infighting found in all "families" and the "man with the vision" decided to take his toys and go home and shut down all the affiliated sites to the QfB… including message boards, the main QfB site and the Post. Outraged that anyone person felt he had the power to destroy what so many had built, community members pulled together and within minutes ( and I mean literally minutes) We had a new Main site, message boards and thanks to the generosity of Nieves… web space for the Post.
Through the dedication and hard work of many folks in the forefront and many, many more behind the scenes The Royal Britannian Post has evolved into a place for all of the Great Lakes RP community to come together as one voice to share their experiences, announce their events, and present their stories. It has grown far beyond "one man’s vision".
After our recent remodeling ( Thanks to the amazing talents of Talanithus) we at the Post were once again encouraged to share our site with a larger audience and it was again suggested we apply for Ultima Online Fansite Link Program. The Post more then meets the requirements listed for the program. So with all our I’s dotted and T’s crossed , I gave Tal the permission to apply.

^ top-Three Souls [LeallaRBP] October 8 - 12:54 PM EDT | I've been lax lately bringing you tales from the world of Role-Play *Yeah, yeah, yeah I heard ya Nieves :P* So today I put together a tale that was posted in installments over at The Royal Britannian Post and hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
Three Souls
Chapter one
*Five weeks ago*
The balron scratched at the door, Fredrick knew he had only moments to cast the spell before the ancient deamon would come crashing through his barricade. Quickly Fredrick placed the appropriate reagents upon the alter of blood. He began to chant as he heard the final crash at the door, the balron had gotten through. Fredrick dropped his spear as he threw his hands into the air and the portal opened with a burst of flame, Fredrick was gone.
Exiting the portal Fredrick took his first glance at the new realm he had entered. The sky was crimson red and the air was thick. Gathering what belongings he had left he sat down to regain his thoughts and take notice of the world around him. The ground was like a solid piece of flat gray stone as far as the eye could see in all directions. No life could be seen except small insects which crawled through the cracks in the ground.
After several minutes Fredrick finished packing his belongings and summoned his magical steed. Looking in all directions Fredrick noted the direction of the wind. "West it is." He quickly thought to himself as he dashed into a fast gallop.

^ top- A step in the right direction? [FrozenFire] October 7 - 11:44 PM EDT | The Tailor BOD bug is bad, and a lot of people are upset its not being fixed anytime soon. And OSI just told us that AOS is more important than fixing it. Players were upset and basically Greywolfe had to plead with players to drop the subject.
Now, our fellow UO fan site Stratics, has a long tradition on quoting news, but not adding comments on their own. Too bad really. But perhaps this bug matter more than most, because Stratics decided to report Greywolfe's lengthy post pleading with players to stop posting about it.
Do I detect an ever so slight amount of discreet criticism? If so, its a step in the right direction. Head over to Stratics, read the post and make your own decisions. Then discuss the purpose of fansites in this thread.

^ top-Last UOHoC [Nieves] October 7 - 9:25 PM EDT | [19:58] [Lord-Xanthor] *Torvak[DF]* i wonder how your Q&A team works... you introduced the bag of sending. but didnt you foresee that playerw will use containers to send whole bags of stuff? [19:59] [Augur] I'll tell you how our Q&A team works - they kick ass. They work like fiends trying to make it so you poor people don't get trodden on by the gigantic amount of things they do catch. [20:00] [Augur] The bag of sending example is actually a designer mistake. It's a designer's responsibility to think of what the bag should and should not do. Q&A helps us alot by catching concepts of what something should and shouldn't do also, but their general job is to make sure it works how we say it's supposed to. [20:00] [Gromm] They work long long hours and they do what is some of the most monotonous work in the entire gaming industry, and they consistently do it darn well. [20:00] [Augur] So the bag of sending was an oversight by the person coding it. We talked about it in our discussions on the concept, and it just got missed when the document and coding were done. [20:01] [Augur] I've seen people talking about QA on the boards, and it just is weird for me, because if you knew how hard they worked and what an awesome job they do, well, you'd respect them as much as I do. [20:01] [Augur] We are lazy, horrible slobs in comparison to them ^_^ [20:01] [Augur] They save my ass on a daily basis. [20:01] [Gromm] Amen, our QA rules. [20:02] * Sannio salutes the QA team
OMG, I absolutely cannot believe the things they put out there. Do they actually believe we are that stupid?
I met one of the QA Testers at the UO Faire. Nice nice nice lady. Sweetheart. Reminded me of my mom. But...oh man I could have a field day with this. Way too easy...and, to be honest, a waste of bandwidth I think.
BTW: Bags Of Sending + Thieves = Much Love.
Even with the "Steal and die" bug being 'fixed' next year after AoS is released it's still a much love use of the Bag of Sending. Oh, you don't think it's going to get fixed anytime soon did you?
Or is it intended? Hmmm....
Let me throw a concept out there for people to chew on: "Integrity". Hell, let me give you another: "Quality".

^ top-Priorities [Nieves] October 7 - 8:56 PM EDT | There will be some changes to existing BOD systems, but no new skills are being added for BOD's during the AOS publish. We have new skills being implemented to be explored, though (chivalry and necromancy have already been announced). I won't expand on what the changes are...I'd rather they were discovered. :) As for an ETA on the tailoring fix, I'm not in charge of the publish schedule. I believe the bug has been viewed as a low-priority fix.
-Hanse UO Live Designer
That's right. All you peeps out there in UO Land are paying 9.95/month per account for smooth releases and low priority bug fixes. Oh, and a kick ass expansion come next February. Remember though, that will cost you $29.95 per account.
Low priority...thanks. Fuckers.
Yeah so we friggin sit on hundreds of bods.
Those were direct quotes. Honest.
Nieves would've said: "aw, you mudda fuckers".
That's a'ight. That's just fine.
All I want to know is how these fucking people can sleep at night knowing they are doing a fucked up job.
Can we let this one go, please? [...]
-Greywolfe
No we fucking can't Greywolfe. There is a problem in the game. Hundreds of bugs you refuse to fix because you want to put out another expansion. Has the development team managers stopped to think that maybe, just maybe, adding a new set of systems will cause current bugs to become worse?
And why is it that no other Fansite but UOPG and Game-Master is fucking man enough to stand up and say: "fuck that shit". Ah yeah, commercialism and official backing. Right. Thanks, I will keep my integrity thank you.
Edit: Erf, I forgot about The Herald, House of Elements, UOCompendium and Turbulent Waters. Nieves is a bad man. I apologize to the other sites that have had their UOFansite Requests turned down because they, simply, don't agree with OSI 100% of the time.
As far as the new skills Chivalry and Necromancy, I have no idea how they intend on implementing the skill gain engine for that.
Oh, a clue OSI: Your stat gain shit isn't working right. 9+ points a day. Thanks. Also, your Make Last 'exploit' "fix", never really worked. But you knew that right? Right.
Edit: I am told the adjusted stat gains are an unannounced 'fix'. Okey then.

^ top-Preach It Sister Jade [Nieves] October 7 - 4:28 PM EDT | I realize that OSI has a habit of catering to the whiners who always want things easier, but this is crazy! Also remember that it is possible to be suspended for remaining in a guild that actively engages in violations of the Terms of Service Agreement or the Rules of Conduct, which includes sharing information about or abusing bugs and exploits in the game. By remaining in a group that engages in these types of activities, you subject yourself to the possibility of a group punishment.
Um...some of those guilds have over 40 members. And many of those members have multiple accounts. Sure you can afford to lose that many accounts OSI?
Oh, wait. You don't care.
Sorry. Thought you were someone else.
Just a closing thought: If you had a section that doing this gets you banned/suspended would help people know what is a bad thing to do and what isn't, don't you think? Aren't there laws about things like that somewhere?

After that, if you want to train the swamp dragon with the beetle out to fight lizard men (the upper level of Despise will do). ^ top-I Am Going to Say This OnceTyg/Clarissa [Nieves] October 3 - 11:06 PM EDT | I don't appreciate your insinuations nor your lack of tact and professionalism. I would appreciate it if you would not make such gross and bogus accusations. Please cease and desist with your blatantly incorrect information about UOPG's and it's member's actions.
/turns on Nieves Mode
Back the fuck off and keep your misinformation to your fucking self.
Bitch.
Edited: Welp, as I knew it would, the above UO.com thread has been deleted. Thank you Tyg for continuing to instigate the arguement and enciting the rant/flame fest. Of course, we all know that the phangrl, Tyg, won't even get a peep from the "powers that be" simply because, you know, she's Tyg, Administrator of an Ianstorm Chat room, The Grandmaster Poster and a Cheerleader of the UO.com boards. Yay.
Edit 2: My apologies for thinking Tyg and Keyhler were one and the same. Thankfully, they are not the same person.
Oh, and on the topic of Professional Models:
"Omigosh! they're using my name now, too? Oh wow, I feel like TOTALLY special!! Now to really upset some people and get conceited for a moment (boy the flames are gonna fly after this one). I guess you all were just DYING to be like a professional model! So you had to go out and name your characters after one! Oh I feel so popular right now! Anyone want an autographed headshot?"
-Tyg
Um, you aren't a 'professional model' until someone actually hires you to model for them. Signing up with an agency and paying for headshots does not make you a pro model.
And, realize, that: If you are just a poster on a forum, you don't really represent that website other than just as a reader. As a staffer though, it changes.
Just some things to think about.
Thank you to Darek and Keyhler of Ianstorm for correcting me and for easing my mind about this.
Take note.

^ top-Hurricane Lili [Nieves] October 2 - 3:38 PM EDT | She's a mean one.
If it does what I think it's going to do, expect the UOPG Forum to be down for a day or two.
If anything, the IRC Chat Room will still be up.
Also, look for streamlined rules for the UOPG Forum and Chat Room in the next day or two.

^ top-Title, What Title? [Nieves] October 1 - 12:11 PM EDT | Scenario Week 3 Schedule East Coast USA Shards (Atlantic, Catskills, Chesapeake, AOL Legends): 5:00 am EDT, Wednesday, October 2 (4:00 am CDT, Wednesday, October 2) Central USA Shards (Great Lakes, Siege Perilous): 5:00 am CDT, Wednesday, October 2 West Coast USA Shards (Pacific, Baja, Lake Austin, Napa Valley, Sonoma): 5:00 am PDT, Wednesday, October 2 (7:00 am CDT, Wednesday, October 2) Oceania: 5:00 am AEST, Thursday, October 3 (2:00 pm CDT, Wednesday, October 2) Japanese Shards (Yamato, Izumo, Wakoku, Hokuto, Asuka, Mizuho, Mugen): 7:00 am JST, Thursday, October 3 (5:00 pm CDT, Wednesday, October 2) Korean Shards (Arirang, Balhae): 7:00 am KST, Thursday, October 3 (5:00 pm CDT, Wednesday, October 2) Taiwan: 7:00 am Taiwan time, Thursday, October 3 (6:00 pm CDT, Wednesday, October 2) European Shards (Europa, Drachenfels): 4:00 am UTC/GMT, Thursday, October 3 (11:00 pm CDT, Wednesday, October 2)
Fixes: This publish also includes the following bug fixes:
The Solen Lair: You will now be able to tame while within this new scenario-inspired area. However, you will not be able to use Recall or Gate Travel to enter the Solen lair on any facet or shard.
Giant Beetle: Taming any subjugated creature will now properly halve its Stats & Skills, although not all beetles were doing this prior to this fix. Those tamed beetles not yet affected by this halving will now have their original Stats & Skills adjusted, but will be able to keep all trained Stats & Skills that were gained after they were tamed.
Bag of Sending: You will no longer be able to send containers through Bags of Sending.
I put this up for the bug fixes.
Taming in the Lairs? Ok fine.
Beetle skills and stats 1/2ed? Eh. Get a tamer buddy to train it up, pay 20k for the time and Uber Love Bug pwns juus!
Bag of Sending: Missed that one didn't you? Thanks for the free Power Scrolls!
Thanks to Jon for the heads up.
