I want to bring you up-to-date with the most recent change in staff here at UO Stratics. As of today I will be taking a leave of absence for an as yet undetermined time. During my absence, Joshua Rowan will be end responsible for anything that goes on within UO Stratics.
Joshua has been a tremendous Assistant Project Manager for many many moons, and I know he will do a tremendous job making sure UO Stratics remains the #1 resource for all things related to Ultima Online while I am away.
Joshua, congrats on the promotion and I'm sure you'll take good care of the site and staff for as long as it takes. Everyone else; the past 4+ years have been a blast and I'm proud to have witnessed the birth and growth of the Stratics network in general and UO Stratics in particular. For now, I have some real-life stuff to take care of. I'll see you all around when the dust has settled. *waves*

Every week, OSI does something that just fucking amazes me.
EDIT: Someone pointed out that the rules are on the UO.com website and it should've been clear to the player with the 'problem'. Well, here they are: The Character Advancement Service is only available on the North American, European, and Australian shards.
The character must be a newly created character with an empty bank box.
Upon purchase of the service, a Game Master will advance the character from the chosen template marked on the account by the customer service department - you will not be able to change skills from the given template or ask for personalized templates.
Once a Game Master has advanced your character the rest of the skill advancement is up to you - all of the templates leave room for you to add and learn additional skills. A GM will not readjust skills after the advancement for any reason.
This program is not offered on the Siege Perilous shard.
All Character Advancement purchases are final, non-transferrable and non-refundable.
Does it say anything about skill totals? Newp. You could recreate a character right then and there to take care of the problem right? Right.
Anyway, whatever...rules should be clear and avoid misunderstanding.

We received 39 entries!! We never expected such a large turnout, so it was very hard to choose which ones were the best because they were all so good!!
The first thing we had to look at was if the entries met the requirements as specified in the rules of the contest.
The second thing we had to do was to sit back and enjoy reading all the awsome stories we recieved!

[Nieves] November 12 - 3:57 PM EST | There are few, if any, checks on this quality. The howls of protest from internet boards in the first week of a game's release are always too late. We gamers often have no idea of the problems that exist. They are certainly never mentioned in computer magazine reviews. I have never seen a review mention bugs or compatibility problems with a game. Ever. Thanks a lot, guys. Just concentrate on putting those oh-so-witty captions under every screenshot, why don't you.

I think someone is stupid. Do they NOT know that most Bards in UO, for good reason, are mages?
But, we powergamers know exactly how to get that Magery and Med GMed fast don't we? Not too mention Provocation and Music. Resist and stats are what take a bit of time. And even then, a good Mage-Bard with decent Peacemaking skill and 'skills' doesn't even need Resist.
BTW: How does that template even compete with the Tamer?
Whatever. Someone will buy it. People are stupid like that.
EDIT: I bet anyone that the Paladin and Necromancer will also be a part of the Adv Char Program after AoS comes or soon after.

Jade and I are looking for the Christmas Holiday break to have the tournament (no not on Christmas or New Years). The weekends of Decembter 21st and 28th and January 3rd look to be good times for them.

As part of our efforts to improve the hosting facilities of our East Coast servers, our Account management system and all seven of our East Coast/Central shards (AOL Legends, Atlantic, Catskills, Chesapeake, Great Lakes, Lake Superior, and Siege Perilous) will be participating in an extended maintenance period starting on Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at 1:30am CST (2:30am EST, 7:30am GMT/UTC). This downtime may last up to 8 hours, ending around 9:30am CST (3:30pm GMT/UTC). Players will not be able to create new accounts or adjust the details/status of their existing accounts while the Account Management system is down. Also, players will not be able to connect to the listed shards during this maintenance period, and any players on these shards at the start of the downtime will be disconnected.
We thank you for your patience, and will update you once these changes are completed.
Well I guess we should be happy for the warning :/

[Nieves] November 10 - 12:30 PM EST | Up to this point, I have been sending out icq announcements to people on my icq list who are in VoB, THB, CRS and 8*V (and a few other miscellaneous friends of mine) when I want to lead a group to do a champion spawn.
Recently I have befriended a group of reds that have been coming to the city of the dead spawn and pking some of the blues there for some entertainment. (First time I've met NICE reds!) Most of us blues enjoyed the pvp pratice and the reds enjoyed the challenge of trying to beat the odds (oh like 50 blues vs 7 reds). Though, when we die we lose nothing, and when they die, they lose half of their stuff. They have yet to get a scroll from their pvping... They were getting discouraged and going though lots of supplies/money. Even though they were happy that we liked them to come and spice things up, it was getting to the point that it wasn't worth it for them to come... I started a thread on the uo.com Dev board with a proposal for some changes to Felucca (especially the dungeon/lost lands) that would not keep blues from continuing to frequent Felucca, but would make the red player's time and effort worth it. The thread has gotten a lot of constructive replies, but that doesn't help the problem this nice band of pks are having presently.

[Nieves] November 8 - 1:06 PM EST | Well, I updated the post in the Read-Only FAQ forum to state that the marketing site for Age of Shadows was pushed back a few more weeks, so the official FAQ will be a little later than I thought.
That's the hard part of giving estimates on deadlines - schedules are always subject to change, and it's never fun to post a delay. It's coming, though - with screenshots, lots of FAQ questions, and more!
*please stick with tomatoes if possible... fruit with hard rinds can be painful*

[Nieves] November 5 - 7:39 AM EST | Another type of scam hits Great Lakes, persons impersonating Impy Auction staff are taking items from unsuspecting players and promising to submit them to auction. These people do not work for Impys and all should be very careful in who they trust with their hard earned goods. Impy staff guild tag is IMP , recently a guild with 1MP signet and dressed as staff have frequented the auction house and West Britain soliciting items. Its very important we are all careful who we give our items to whther its Impys or any other trusted organization. There will always be those too pathetic to get rich without scamming it from others , to be safe make sure you get icq confirmation from anyone whether you think its safe or not. Impys staff has a list of people to contact when making submissions at www.impys.net. ...

^ top-Publish 16 Changes And A Bit Of NWN:UO
[Nieves] November 4 - 7:10 AM EST | Just some stuff that I have done since the new pub that I didn't find on your site.
Lockpicking - Seems that the GM tinkered boxes don't let you start gaining till around 53 and take you to the same spot of 95.
Mining - Smelting colored ore doesn't help that much due to the slowness but I have noticed that when you get a colored vein that is at your current skill level that you get more gains when you mine the ore.
Provocation - No longer target bases but difficult bases .. so far I went from 30 to 51 on just skeletons at the yew cemetary. Now i'm working boglings and still getting gains at 65 (worked the same 2 today for 4 hrs. straight and went from 52 to 62)... let you know my track on that. Also attached a list of creatures difficulty to this email.
.. the list I found in the bard forums on stratics and apparently the confirmed creatures were confirmed from OSI according to the thread.

Some of this stuff we know, some we don't. I hate mining so I haven't worked it since I hit 100 on my own miner. I am sure some of this information is news to you guys as well.
Well, back to NWN:UO. If you guys are ever on, and are near the Orc Fort, you will see two houses there. A large one, and a small one. I 'own' the small one. Yes, you can buy houses on that server. Unfortunately, it's not working quite right so no saving items. One thing, even though the small one looks small from the outside, it's actually got 4 large rooms whereas the other one has 2 large rooms. Typical of a NWN building. They aren't built quite right (which is fine).
DM Ace is working hard to remove any and all bugs on the server. He also ran some trivia contests (Who assassinated Lord British?) and had a run to see who could find the newly inserted Buc's Den first. Thanks to me, Noili got a new level and a few thousand gold (10,000 or 100,000; I don't remember). Congrats Noili!
So far, my Ranger is now Level 17, Lealla is Level 13, a Dwarven Cleric a friend of mine has is right about 16, and our mage friend is either 15 or 16. Noili, The Ol' Crazy Dwarf is right at 14. Lealla, Noili, and I managed to take on 3 Dragons...and win. There are items in the game that can absorb so many hit points per hit, resist elemental damage, and resist magic. Helps alot against those damn dragons. Dragons in NWN:UO have a 'fear' radius that is huge. If you get hit with that 'awe' effect, your character tends to run as far as his/her feet can take her. There is an item in game that counters that as well (Golden Circlet). So...Noili became the tank while Lealla and I shot it down with Fire Arrows. Shooting 4 times a a combat round is choice.
If that server isn't to your speed, try Luci's. It's pretty decent and the first few quests, although challenging, is fun and can get you up to 5th or 6th level.

Every so often our company likes to hear what our players are thinking about things that are happening in the industry. We call players at random to hear their thoughts, even if the things we're asking about aren't in the planning stage yet. In regard to this survey, there is nothing definite planned at this point for any of the things that we have asked players about.

OSI doesn't have the resources to fix the broken aspects of UO, but they have plenty of resources to develop advanced character purchases, plenty of resources to develop a chat system, plenty of resources to transfer chars to other shards (which was prior to this too complicated), plenty of resources to develop more eye candy, and enough resources to develop new, private housing lands with private quests.
Is it just me, or does ALL of this entirely reek of utter BULLSHIT?

Even if the above wasn't true, OSI has the time and energy to put together scenarios, fix the tailoring bug, put in the gardening system, put in the tailoring bod system itself, add the virtues, code in Publish 16, put together the Hag Quest and the Statue Quest, and put together AoS. But no time to do anything else that's required of them as our employee (we pay them to provide a service right?).
Interesting. Any of you game players listening yet? Any of you telling OSI that we have had enough? I mean, you still want to play UO right? And you feel there is something really wrong with how they are managing YOUR game? Fine. Then fucking tell them so.
